Unique Buildings in Asia
Largest and most populous continent Asia is notable for its unusually dense and large settlements. Some of the buildings in Asia are innovative, experimental and unique.
Many of these strange buildings are in China. Here are some 20 most unique buildings in Asia.

1. Solar Ark (Japan)

This unique structure, which was established in 2002, is located inside Sanyo Electric Co., Ltd. Anpachi, Gifu, Japan. It is actually a power generation facility. Solar Lab, a museum of solar energy is stationed at the center of the Sanyo Solar Ark. The facility offers activities to cultivate a better appreciation of the use of solar energy.

2. Guangzhou Circle (China)

The landmark building Guangzhou Circle is located in Guangzhou, China. This circular building’s central hold is hollow. It is the world’s tallest (138 meters) circular building.

3. Ryugyong Hotel (North Korea)

This pyramid-shaped skyscraper has 105 floors. It is located in Pyongyang, North Korea. With a height of 330 meters, it is the tallest building in North Korea.

4. NetDragon Websoft Headquarters (China)

The Net Dragon Websoft Headquarters is a $100 million building that resembles Star Trek’s Enterprise. It is an 853 feet long structure. The building is located in the coastal city of Changle, Fuzhou, China.

5. Phoenix International Media Center (China)

This beautiful structure is located in the southwest corner if Chaoyang Park, Beijing, China. The building’s sculptural shape originates from the Mobius Strip. The Phoenix International Media Center is an icon in Beijing. It was designed by Chinese architect Wang Shu, which proves that Chinese architects are emerging on international stage.

6. Sanzhi UFO Houses (Taiwan)

Also known as Sanzhi pod houses, the Sanzhi UFO houses were a set of abandoned pod-shaped buildings in Sanzhi District, New Taipei City, Taiwan. These colorful buildings resembled Futuro houses. These buildings were demolished by 2010.

7. Robot Building (Thailand)

Located in Sathorn business district of Bangkok, this unique structure houses United Overseas Bank’s Bangkok headquarters. It resembles a robot and is one of the last examples of modern architecture in Bangkok.

8. Piano House (China)

The Piano House is a beautiful building with violin entrance. Located in Huainan City in China, this structure has meeting rooms, escalators and space to host marriages. It is a tourist attraction in the region.

This 515-foot landmark building is located in Fushun, China. Huffington Post called this unique structure “stunning.” The building’s observation deck is accessible by elevator. It cost around $16 million to build this structure.

10. CCTV Headquarters (China)

The CCTV Headquarters is a 44-story skyscraper. Located in Beijing, China, this unique building houses the headquarters of China Central Television (CCTV). The main building is a loop of six horizontal and vertical sections covering 473,000 square meters of floor space.

11. Lotus Temple (India)

Located in New Delhi, India, this beautiful structure is a Baha’i House of Worship. It is famous for its lotus-like shape. The design of this building is composed of 27 free-standing marble-clad petals arranged in clusters of three to form nine sides.

Also known as Chang Building, the Elephant Building is a high-rise structure located in Bangkok, Thailand. This building has 32 floors and resembles an elephant. The roof is at a height is 102 meters.

This circular building is the first of its kind in the Middle East. It is located in Abu Dhabi, UAE and was voted the “Best Futuristic Design by the Building Exchange Conference held is Spain.

15. National Centre for the Performing Arts (China)

The National Center for the Performing Arts is located in Beijing, China. It is an ellipsoid dome of titanium and glass. It is surrounded by an artificial lake. It appears like an egg floating on water.

16. Fang Yuan Building (China)

The Fang Yuan Building is located in Shenyang, China. It is inspired by ancient Chinese coins that were circular with square cutouts in the middle. The building has 25 floors. It was ranked #9 on CNN’s top 10 list of the Most Ugliest Buildings in the world.

17. The Lotus Building (China)

The Lotus Building is located at the center of Wujin, China. It shows the three stages of lotus, from the new young bud, to the flower in full bloom. It houses the departments of city’s planning bureau.

18. Flower Dome (Singapore)

Located in Marina Bay, Singapore, the Flower Dome is 38 meters high. It is one of the two conservatories at the Gardens by the Bay. It replicates a mild, dry climate and features plants found in the Mediterranean and other tropical regions.

19. Yas Viceroy Abu Dhabi Hotel (UAE)

Built across the F1 Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, this spectacular building is the first hotel in the world to be built over an F1 race circuit. It consists of two 12-floor hotel towers, one set within the race circuit and another placed in the Marina itself. These towers are linked together by a monocoque steel and glass bridge and Grand Shell structure that both cross above and over the race track.

20. Khan Shatyr Entertainment Center (Kazakhstan)

This giant transparent tent shaped structure is located in Astana, Kazakhstan. It is built in a distinctively neofuturist style. The building is 150 meters tall and has a 200 meter elliptical base covering 140,000 square meters. Inside the tent, you will find an urban-scale internal park, shopping and entertainment venue with squares and cobbled streets, shopping center, a boating river, mini-golf and indoor beach resort. The roof is constructed from ETFE cushions.
